There are around 68 registered campsites in Iceland. Camping grounds are normally open from the beginning of June until the end of August or middle of September depending on location.

Star Grading of Iceland Camping Areas

Camping areas in Iceland are classified according to a standard compiled by the Iceland Tourism Board.  The use of the standard is optional.  Where the standard is used, star grading categories are presented in a conspicuous location at the site and visitors are then expected to make sure that the site corresponds to it’s classification as expressed by the number of stars granted to the site.  In the event that visitors feel the site in question does not fulfil the requirements of it’s class, they are kindly requested to inform the Icelandic Tourist Board, tel.: 535-5510 or through the e-mail address: [email protected]
